Volunteer

Become a Caritas volunteer
Caritas is a small organization where volunteer work plays a significant role. Volunteers are essential, especially in organizing events, sales, and other fundraising activities. Any kind of expertise is valuable—from graphic design to charitable work and project planning.
- Development cooperation volunteers plan and oversee the progress of development projects.
- Caritas Ambassadors act as a link between Caritas Finland and Catholic parishes.
- Volunteers in domestic work participate in events such as bazaars, assist with surplus food distribution, sort clothing, and help with office tasks based on their interests and availability.
- YoungCaritas volunteers support domestic activities and organize workshops and visits in a dynamic and youthful group.
Choose the most suitable role on the form and join us! The contact form is unfortunately in Finnish. You can also contact volunteer coordinator Anna-Riina Hakala anna-riina.hakala@caritas.fiÂ
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and gain experience while helping others. Welcome to the Caritas family!

Why Do I Volunteer in Caritas?
1. Volunteer’s story
- Because the world is burning and even a glass of water may help
- Because I want to give back
- Because everyone needs help at some point
- Because one cannot predict the consequences of the little help one gives – it may matter way over our expectations
- Because it is fun
- Because it is energising
- Because there are snacks
- Because it is creative
- Because it is even empowering at times
2. Volunteer’s story
The truth is that I had no intention of helping. I looked for Caritas more to get help and ended up getting involved. 😄
And what makes me stay is for two key reasons: integration and being helpful. When you go to help, you end up discovering that you are helped in the process too. This in all areas.
3. Volunteer’s story
I have been volunteering with Caritas Finland since 2015 because Caritas works at the grassroots level with marginalized people. The organization also strives to be a voice for the voiceless and respects the dignity of every human being – values that I deeply share.
Volunteering with Caritas also brings me the joy of helping others and the sense of belonging to a community of like-minded people who want to be human for other human beings and make a difference.
4. Volunteer’s story
Spread love – we are all equal in the eye of God
5. Volunteer’s story
- Turning solidarity into action
Volunteering with Caritas means putting the values of solidarity and compassion into daily actions that support people in need. - Personal growth
Encountering those who suffer opens the heart, broadens the mind, and teaches us to appreciate life in new ways. Every act of help is also a step in one’s own human and spiritual development. - Living the Gospel in practice
For those who follow the Christian faith, volunteering with Caritas is a direct way to live out the message of Jesus: “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” - Being part of a community
Caritas is about working together, sharing experiences, ideas, and projects. It creates a sense of belonging and fosters authentic relationships with other volunteers and those being helped. - Using your talents for good
Everyone has something to offer: time, listening skills, language abilities, practical skills, organizational capacity… At Caritas, every talent is valuable. - Building a more just society
Volunteering is not just about giving assistance; it is also about addressing the root causes of poverty and exclusion. It means actively contributing to a more humane and inclusive world. - Giving a voice to the voiceless
Being a volunteer also means listening to the stories of those on the margins and helping them find dignity, respect, and a space to be heard.
