Emergency appeal to Lebanon
Help families fleeing Lebanon
Bishops appeal for Lebanon – joint collection to start on May 17th
The prolonged crisis in Lebanon primarily affects the civilian population. Constant uncertainty, the threat of violence and economic hardship have driven many families to the brink. The most vulnerable people who have fled their homes are struggling with a lack of food, medicine and a safe everyday life.
The Catholic bishops of the Nordic countries are appealing now: remember the people of Lebanon in your prayers and prepare for a joint collection that will start on Sunday, May 17, the last Sunday of the Easter season. Prayer and concrete help go hand in hand, according to the bishops.
The collection will support the work of Caritas in Lebanon. As the social aid agency of the Catholic Church, Caritas works throughout the country with local workers and communities and reaches out to the most vulnerable. The focus of the aid is on food, cash and medical support, and safe shelters.

The following appeals call us to take joint responsibility.
Dear parishioners, sisters and brothers in Christ
Once again this year, the Catholic bishops in the Nordic countries are calling for a joint emergency appeal to support Caritas’ humanitarian work. We have decided that on Sunday, May 17 – the last Sunday of the Easter season – an appeal will be launched to support the numerous families and refugees living in Lebanon, who are living in uncertainty under the shadow of war.
Although there are occasional ceasefires between Israel and Lebanon, fear and uncertainty are still widespread, and humanitarian needs are enormous. Many families have been forced to flee their homes, and their everyday lives are marked by serious deprivation.
As the social arm of the Catholic Church, Caritas is present throughout the country – including in the southernmost regions, where the fighting has been particularly fierce. The organization reaches out to the most vulnerable and provides them with vital assistance: food, cash assistance, medicine and safe shelter. Thanks to the joint collection, Caritas can continue and expand this work.
I warmly encourage you to participate in the emergency appeal and ask you to remember the victims of war in your prayers.
With thanks and prayers,
Bishop Raimo
The Lebanon crisis through the eyes of aid workers – an appeal from the Secretary-General
Aid workers working in Lebanon encounter families and other vulnerable people living in the shadow of war and violence every day. Although the fighting sometimes subsides, the fear does not subside. People who have fled their homes struggle for food, medicine and safe shelter – and their needs are constantly growing.
Caritas is present where the need is greatest. Our workers distribute food and medicine, provide cash assistance and create shelters for those who have nowhere else to go. They often do this work in difficult and dangerous conditions, because they know that helping can save lives.
Those of you who are able to help, please take part in the upcoming emergency appeal. Every donation strengthens the ability of our aid workers to act quickly and effectively – and gives hope to those who have lost almost everything.
Together we can stand by them.
Thank you for being part of this joint Nordic campaign.
Best regards,
Secretary General Larissa
